That Time I Cancelled My Monthly Subscriptions

Monday, August 29, 2016

After a cancellation survey and two confirmation e-mails, my affair with Birchbox is officially over. I am a graduate, entering the real world with no assistance from facemasks and perfume samples.

That Time I Turned Twenty-Three

Wednesday, August 24, 2016

This past weekend, I celebrated twenty-three years of life. If you talked to me in the preceding month or so, you know that I wasn't excited for this birthday. I've always had an affinity for even numbers, so this very odd, very mundane year felt like a page I'd rather skip over. Then, hours before the clock struck midnight, my godmother pointed out that 23 is a prime number. And it dawned on me that sometimes things don't seem so great, and sometimes we have to work to find the positive–but there is always a positive.

Per tradition, I've found a quote that I'm assigning to this prime year:

That Time I Celebrated International Women's Day

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

Today, March 8th, 2016, is International Women's Day, and I couldn't be prouder to be a female!

At Heshima Kenya, we've been celebrating for a while now, and it's inspired me to speak out about how I feel. Today is more than just women loving the fact that they have two X chromosomes, it's about remembering that we still have so much work to do for equality for each other.

Before political beliefs start flying around like dough in a pizzeria, it's important to note that not everything boils down to laws or economics or even catchy movements.

International Women's Day is about the fundamental belief that we exist on this earth as equals. It has come to my attention several times in the past month how essential it is to understand that we did not do anything to deserve what we have more than any other human being. The fact that I am able to sit in a very comfortable bed in a plush apartment with electricity, cooking gas, hot water - or running water, for that matter - and wifi that allows me to type up these sentences on a pretty laptop...I did nothing to end up as blessed as I am.

Here's the big news (drumroll please)...

New Music Monday: Winter 2016

Monday, January 11, 2016

If you've been around me these past few months, you probably know that I'm OBSESSED with Spotify. I'm not sure why it took me so long to find this amazing music service, but I started listening last summer and never stopped. My Spotify Premium is the only monthly subscription service that I simply cannot let go of. I almost constantly have music playing, whether I'm at work, on my commute or at home (it also helps me forget about the silence of living alone). Because of this, I've become quite crafty with DJ-ing and creating playlists.
